individual
Providing support to girls and women experiencing health-related concerns is a primary focus at Slow Psychology. We support women experiencing health conditions such as autoimmune disorders, endometriosis, cancer, alcohol use, birth trauma, post-natal depression and menopause. We also support women of all ages going through the big transitions in life such as grief and loss, retirement, relationship separation and parenting struggles. We work with anxiety, depression and are very experienced with burnout, overwhelm and general existential concerns. We incorporate the principles of lifestyle medicine into our approach and assist you to connect with these principles.
Whilst we have developed a model of therapy based on cognitive behavioural therapy. that uses knitting and crochet as a pathway to change, this is option is not selected by everyone. All our sessions are specifically designed to your own needs.
groups
Slow Psychology offers two groups – The Healing Stitch and Healing Hands. a therapeutic knitting and crochet group – the first of its kind in Australia.
Healing Hands is an action packed three hour group that focuses on sharing information and tools to get the most therapeutic benefits from knitting and crochet.
The Healing Stitch is a ten-session program that is offered in two blocks of five sessions each. Sessions are conducted weekly and consist of the same participants each week. The program takes a cognitive-behavioural (CBT) approach and as such is evidence-based, with topics including: the neuroscience of knitting & crochet, core beliefs, window of tolerance, self-compassion, perfectionism, behavioural activation (action before motivation) and mindfulness. We use knitting and crochet to apply the principles of CBT and in the process have fun, drink cups of tea, establish connections with others, learn from others and just generally
enjoy the process.
A medicare rebate applies to these sessions if you have a mental health care plan in place. Medicare provides up to ten individual sessions with a psychologist in addition to ten group sessions.
You can continue to see your psychologist for individual sessions as well as attending the group sessions.
Groups run for 90 minutes and are held weekly at the same time, with a maximum of six participants. Please email hello@slowpsych for further details.
community
A free community group Better Together is held each month for all community members to gather, connect and create rugs, hats, toys and other items to donate to children in care or other preferred charities. This provides an opportunity to meet others with a passion for knitting, crochet and other hand crafts in a relaxed environment. This isn’t a therapy group. Contact for more information on dates and times.
Training & Supervision
I provide comprehensive guidance and support to developing and experienced therapists through a collaborative and growth-oriented approach. I create a safe, reflective environment where supervisees can explore therapeutic challenges, reflect on interventions and develop their own unique clinical style.
I am particularly keen to provide supervision to others interested in incorporating therapeutic knitting and crochet into their own practice. I also provide supervision and support to others who provide animal assisted therapy with their therapy dogs, or to those exploring introducing animal assisted therapy into their clinical practice.
We’d love to be part of your journey
Whether you’re seeking stillness, support or simply a softer way to heal, we’re here to walk beside you. Through threads, therapy and shared space, Slow Psychology offers gentle tools to help you reconnect—one stitch at a time.
